Minneha Introduces Mascot

Minneha Introduces our New Mascot

After 15 years without a mascot Minneha began a mascot search.  Minneha had been the home of the Chiefs for many years but chose not to use the mascot after concerns were raised by Native Americans.  The mascot committee, led by Mr. Doornbus looked through our school archives to find a connection to Minneha's past with our new mascot.  In researching our past Mr. Doornbus found out that Minneha Junior High's mascot in the 1960's was the hawk.  The wings on our new Hawk replicate ones found in the archives.  The M on his chest iis the M used in the old cheerleader outfits.  The school Site Council narrowed the choices to two and all of the Minneha students voted for their preference.  We are proud to be the Minneha Hawks!

Who are WatchDOGS

® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program of the National Center for Fatheringfocusing on prevention of violence in our nation’s schools by using the positive influence of fathers and fatherfigures for a two-fold purpose:1) to provide an unobtrusive presence in the schools, and 2) to be a positive and active role-model for students at their school.WATCH D.O.G.S.middle-school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Joined with National Center for Fathering in 2006, WATCH D.O.G.S. serves to inspire and equip men to be the involved fathers, grandfathers and father-figures their students need. (Dads Of Great Students)?WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year atan official WATCH D.O.G.S.play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, mentorstudents, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but otherstudents as well. Their mere presence offers additional security at the school during the day! On the day of theirparticipation, the participants are given a brief review of their involvement and they wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S.t-shirt or vest with a disposable ‘Dog Tag’ identifying them as WatchDOGS.

What is Site Council?
What is Site Council?

Site Council is an advisory group to the School.  It's membership consists of parents, community volunteers, and school personnel.  It's purpose is to be a sounding board for the Minneha community.  For example, in our Bond project the Site Council will advise the architects and offer suggestions.  The Site Council selects the school's Red Apple Award members.  It works actively on parent involvement policies and supports activities.  The Site Council selects what charity events the school will support. The Site Council is a valued part of the Minneha School Improvement efforts!
